You Can Do This: A December Post

Dear Mummy,

December so often feels like climbing a very tall hill in very high heels. An impossible feat that must be conquered.

But you can do this.

It’s one of those months, when jobs appear from nowhere. From Christmas card writing, to present wrapping. And that’s after you’ve accomplished the Herculean attempt at completing said shopping.

You are incredible.

Because even though every year you wonder where you will find the time from, you do it. Somehow you manage it. And this year you will too.

You can do this.

Every year you wonder how you will stop a family feud breaking out. From diving time between families, to shopping Great Auntie Maud killing Uncle Bill during Christmas dinner. It feels impossible. But every year you orchestrate it.

You can do this.

You wonder how you will make Christmas bigger, better, more special than the year before. You worry that the children will be disappointed. That the all important present won’t live up to expectations. You have no idea how you’ll pull it off. Yet somehow – like always – you will.

You can do this.

Christmas dinner hovers in your thoughts. A constant presence in the back of your mind. You wonder how you’ll squeeze all that food inside the fridge. If only it grew bigger in December. You wonder how you’ll cook something the whole family will eat. And whether you’ll manage not to burn the turkey. Relax mummy, you worry about these things every year.

You can do this.

December is one of those months, that is impossible yet magical in equal doses. It’s the time we most miss those loved ones who are no longer with us. Wishing that they too could share the new memories being made and witness the looks of joy on the faces of the children.

It’s a time we shed tears, perhaps more than we should.

But you can do this.

You can create a wonderful Christmas, the perfect one. Maybe even the best one yet.

You don’t need to worry.

Because let me tell you a secret. Christmas is about family, it’s about love, it’s about the memories you’ll make.

It’s about cuddles on the sofa and eating chocolates by the fire. It’s about watching movies you’ve seen a hundred times before, it’s about the look in your child’s eyes as you tuck them into bed on Christmas Eve.

The rest will fall into place.

Whether you’re a family of two or a family of twenty. Whether there is one gift by the tree or hundreds.

You will make the day special.

Just because you are you.

You can do this.

Do you know how I know?

Because no one loves your children, just like you.

You can do this Mummy, I promise you that.

Sit back, relax, take care of yourself.

Worry a little less and believe a little more.

Trust me, you’ve got this.

Love Always

An Equally Worried Mummy x

  1. Awww, a lovely motivational post. I haven’t really started thinking about Christmas yet, I need to get organised this weekend. The worry has started to creep in about not being organised which proceeds the worry of how much I will need to do when I have written a list.

  2. LOVE this! Am feeling so overwhelmed this evening, and reading this post has definitely helped me feel better. Thank you xx

  3. This is so lovely. Christmas is my absolutely favourite time of year but I also hate how tiring and stressful it can be. I’m looking forward to the years when we say no to seeing family and simply sit in our pjs surrounded by wrapping paper until it’s time to eat turkey!
